The Red Barn is the heart of Sicamous’ vibrant art scene. The Eagle Valley Arts Council, in partnership with Communities in Bloom (a 2022 Provincial 5 Bloom winner) and local businesses, has transformed downtown Sicamous into a large canvas of art boards, banners and floral arrangements. This self-guided walk takes you past many of the businesses and organisations who host them.
- The corner of Riverside Ave and Finlayson: the public washroom has a floral art board. What the Woof is a funky site with upside-down trees for posts and a pet-themed art board at their dog wash station. The Red Barn, home of the Eagle Valley Arts Council, has a traditional barn quilt installation on its fence and a mix of art board styles on the building.
- Bruhn Crossing: a heritage building whose Young Crescent side exhibits a spectacular mural of Gord Downie from the Tragically Hip, as a tribute to reconciliation.
- The corner of Riverside Ave and Main Street has sunflower art boards on the NW and SW corners, part of the 2022 Communities in Bloom effort in support of Ukraine. The public washroom has two art boards, and art banners hang from lampposts at all four corners. The NE corner is home to the Sek’emaws (Sicamous) Health Centre, designed by renowned architect Douglas Cardinal; art boards celebrate the building’s vision of water, sky and mountains and pay tribute to Indigenous symbols of healing, with Indigenous-themed art banners on the lamp posts nearby.
- 310 Main Street: a collection of art boards celebrating the annual Sicamous Fungi Festival.
- 322 Main Street: the Sicamous Legion was key to kicking off the revitalisation of downtown Sicamous and the Art Renaissance that followed. The mural and art boards on the building pay tribute to veterans and are registered with Veterans Affairs military memorials. The Cenotaph has a garden and seating area for quiet reflection, and the Legion, Arts Council and Resource Centre partnered on the rear art fence and garden.
- 446 Main Street: the District building, home to the Sicamous Museum & Historical Society, is a unique houseboat design, with a spectacular sunflower art board to its left.
- 473 Main Street: The Pines Motel has a fabulous 2022 art board depicting pine trees, with more art boards along their fence.
- 517 Main Street: The Paradise Motel was the Communities in Bloom feature business for 2024, embracing the Art and Garden initiative with art boards, commissioned local artworks and gardens throughout the property.
- 1091 Shuswap Avenue: the Seniors’ Centre is home to the art board project for 2026.
